MAKATI CITY, Philippines -- Local companies can now create their own marketing campaigns using both the short messaging service (SMS) and the Internet, a Philippine mobile applications provider announced this week.

Launched last month, Axis Global Interactive (AGI) said it has created a free mobile marketing service, called TextPlatform that hopes to provide local companies with a user-friendly communication platform that is also easy to manage.

Local firms can use the service for free to send SMS alerts to targeted subscribers, said Richelle Chan, marketing head of AGI, in a telephone interview.

SMS alerts can be in form of news of a product or company, event or a sale, current promotions or any updates, she said.

Chan said AGI is currently in discussions with local companies interested to use the service. She declined to disclosed which companies are interested.

Asked how the local company intends to make business out of this free service, Chan said the end-users who will be subscribing to the service will provide income for AGI.

AGI said the service is initially available to Smart and Sun Cellular subscribers.

AGI has also rolled out other mobile applications, including Moblabber Philippines, a group messaging application, and Hobnobster Philippines, which is a web and mobile social networking service.

AGI is a subsidiary of Philippine computer distributor Axis Global Technologies.

Axis Global Technologies is now using the service to promote some brands like Creative Labs, Olympus, among others, Chan said.
